We all love our pets, and most of us hold a special spot in our hearts for shelter pets…. In 2017, a young Vermont woman, Maggie DeGreenia, adopted an adorable grey and white cat from her local shelter. “Tinsel” had a little white mustache and Maggie fell in love with her.

In December of 2021, though, Tinsel accidentally got out of the house and disappeared. Winters in

Vermont are cold and snowy, so when Tinsel didn’t respond to Maggie’s calls and yard search, Maggie, her family and friends searched everywhere -- but she’d just vanished! Worried sick now, Maggie put up posters all over town and called local area shelters for weeks. Still nothing. She even posted on Facebook, hoping that somebody, somewhere, would see her beloved cat. Finally, after months, Maggie had to accept that Tinsel was gone; she only hoped that Tinsel had found a good home.

Then one day, four years later, Maggie’s cousin spied a photo of tinsel on a local shelter’s page. When

Maggie pulled up the picture herself, she burst into tears! It really was Tinsel! Even better, at the

shelter Tinsel immediately recognized her and couldn’t wait to get home. Sometimes, when we least

expect it, miracles happen!
