Recently college football fans (my husband and I included) watched the Indiana Hoosiers win

their first national championship in their college playoff championship game against the Miami

Hurricanes, thanks in great part to their outstanding quarterback, Fernando Mendoza, who made

amazing plays throughout the game – that went right down to the wire!

In the post-game interview, when the Heisman trophy winner was asked where he got his

incredible strength to keep fighting till the very end, his said in his now famous answer … “My

inspiration is my mother… she is my light…. She’s my why! I watch her overcome her struggles

(with MS) with optimism. She’s been a great role model – she’s my why.” She’s also always

there, watching from her wheelchair at his games and cheering him on. What a light-bearer….

But wait, there’s more. Fernando’s dad is also always there, sitting right beside his wife and

cheering on his son. BUT, when everyone around them yells and jumps up, screaming their

delight at the games, he never does. Why? Because his wife can’t stand and cheer, so he shows

his support for her by sitting and cheering with her… A powerful, different kind of Light-bearer.
